16th December 2014, Doha – Press conference of International cycling stage race TOUR OF AL ZUBARAH 2014 was held today in the Marriott Hotel.

Organized by the Qatar Cycling Federation under Presidency of Sheikh Khalid bin Ali Al Thani, the race will see its second edition. It is becoming bigger and more interesting by aspect of sport promotion, media, sponsors and fans. The race is becoming stronger in organizational and competition sense.

From Wednesday, 17th of December, to Saturday, 20th of December, the race will cover big portion of State of Qatar in four stages. The goal of organizers is to always organize some new stages, which will make the race more interesting.

Schedule of stages:

7. December (Wednesday) Aspire Zone-prologue 3,9 km
8. December 2013 (Thursday) Madinat Al Kaaban – Dukhan 120,1 km
9. December 2013 (Friday) Al Shamal Sports Club – Madinat Al Shamal 116,8 km
10. December 2013 (Saturday) Lekhwiya Sports Club – Al Zubarah 122,6 km
RACE LENGTH 363,4 km

 

The riders will have to tackle first with the short individual time trial, which will be held in Aspire Zone. Very interesting and technical course will be battled in the dark for the first time in Qatar, which will undoubtedly offer great experience for the riders as well as fans. Second day (National Day) will lead riders form Madinat Al Kabaan to Dukhan. The only stage with some hills in the last 25 km could be already deciding for the General Classification. Third day, the riders will start in Al Shamal Sports Club, which offered support for this event. The 13,5 km lap in the end is always an attraction. Last day. The riders will head from Lekhwiya sports club to their final destination to Al Zubarah. A mild drag to the finish and wind could present hard tackle for the riders. The stage proved to be very hard last year, since riders came in finish in small groups. The champion’s ceremony will be held in front of Al Zubarah fort.

Members of the public are encouraged to come and try a bike rental at aspire on the 17th of December at 4:30 pm and cycle the Tour of Zubarah Course with family or friends then watch the professionals do it There will be a grandstand for viewing the race and refreshments served.
