The inaugural edition of Tour of Al Zubarah exceeded all expectations in terms of organization and intensity from the
participating teams, Qatar Cycling Federation (QCF) President Sheikh Khalid bin Ali Al Thani has said.
QCF last week staged the first ever edition of Tour of Al Zubarah that attracted 14 teams from Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
UAE’s Yousif Mohamed Mirza won the event after dominating the four-day event held between December 4 and 7.
‘It was a successful event. We saw some intense cycling from riders,’Sheikh Khalid said. ‘We are confident that we will attract more teams next year,’ the QCF president added. ‘Maybe we could have 16 teams
next year.
‘I would like to thank my team at QCF and our supporters Qatar Museum Authority (QMA),’ Sheikh Khalid said. ‘We chose the site of Al Zubarah to promote sports tourism in the country.’
When asked about women’s participation from next year, the QCF president said Qatar had launched its women’s team 10 days ago. He said once the riders got experience, he could confirm if they could feature in an event for women.

‘I know the Gulf riders benefited coming to our event. They got great practice and Tour of Al Zubarah definitely helped the regional riders get practice before the GCC Cycling Championship,’ Sheikh Khalid said.
